Cape Town Pride has announced the theme of 2019 Pride as well as unveiling a spanking new logo and fresh new website. The theme for next year’s 9 day festival celebrating all that’s queer and fabulous is “I am Me. No Excuses. No Regrets”.
As always, the Festival will include a variety of events to suit all tastes, from the fun and frivolous to the more serious: drag shows, book launches, sporting events, film shows, poetry readings, art exhibitions and of course the Pride March and Mardi Gras.
Pride kicks off on Saturday 23rd February with three very popular events: the legendary Cozy Pool Party – Pride Edition and the Kasi Pre-Pride Party in Gugulethu in the afternoon, followed by Mr and Miss Cape Town Pride Pageant happening at the Joseph Stone Auditorium in Athlone in the evening.
The main event that is one of the highlights of the Queer calendar is the Pride March which happens on Saturday 2nd March 2019, starting at the Gallows Hill Traffic Department in Green Point at noon. The march is an opportunity for the community to express itself publicly for the world to see. Pride is partnering with Cape Town Carnival who will be lending some of their costumes to add an extra fabulosity to the parade.
After the Pride March comes the Pride Mardi Gras. As has been the case in the last two years, it will be happening at Reddam Field located in the Green Point Park. There will be a variety of entertainment on stage, including some of the best drag acts and live bands and singers that the Mother City has to offer. Admission will be R50.00. Tickets can be bought in advance on Quicket. https://www.quicket.co.za/events/41959-cape-town-pride-mardi-gras/#/
