FanCon Cape Town Comic Con, established in 2016, is South Africa’s first dedicated comic convention, and the first convention to bring comic book creators and cosplay artists of international renown to our shores. The third annual FanCon returns for a fun-filled fan experience over the weekend of 28-29 April 2018 at the CTICC, in the new wing called CTICC 2, and with an expanded exhibition floor space jam-packed with pop culture and geek related exhibitors, activities, panel talks, stage events, and featured local and international guests.
Welcome to geek heaven ! Show Highlights : – international comic book artists, Declan Shalvey, Yanick Paquette, Ken Lashley, Laura Braga, and Ulysse Malassagne are invited guests and will participate in fan meet & greets, signing and drawing sessions, and attendees will be able to purchase and commission artwork directly from them –
World-renowned cosplay artist, Riki (Riddle) Lecotey is the show’s featured cosplay guest, she will be available for meet & greet sessions, signings, photo ops, and will be on the judging team for the cosplay competition –
International guests, Riki Lecotey and Chris Donio, specialty costumers and prop makers for Marvel movies, including Avengers Infinity War, will be in attendance –
Zapiro, famed South African cartoonist, will have an exhibition stand, host a cartoon workshop, and participate in signing sessions –
Kinpatsu Cosplay, SA’s top cosplay artist, returns and will be available for panel workshops, meet & greet and signings, and photo ops with fans –
Team Kwezi, the full creative team behind South Africa’s superhero sensation, Kwezi, in attendance – ten independently published local comic books to be launched in a special open presentation panel –
FanCon 2018 is proud to host South Africa’s biggest artist alley to date, featuring over 50 local artists from all over the country
FanCon 2018 showcases multiple convention exclusive items, including three POP vinyl figures, two DC Comics licensed t-shirts, plus a limited edition FanCon 2018 Superman shirt, to honour the 80th anniversary of the world’s first superhero – Action Comics #1, the comic book that introduced Superman to the world, was released on newsstands in April 1938, and it is only fitting that FanCon 2018 celebrates this 80th anniversary milestone with a mini exhibit of original Action Comics issues through the decades – cosplay masquerade & competition, panel programme, geek quiz with cool stuff to be won, board gaming zone for free gaming and demo’s, stage performances, and more !
