Mr Gay World SA representative

Press Release submitted by Fran Kirsten

The South African representative for the 2017 Mr Gay World™ will be chosen at a prestigious event, Mr Mardi Gras South Africa on Friday, April 29 during Knysna’s annual Pink Loerie Mardi Gras & Arts Festival.

For the past 16 years this tranquil Garden Route town transforms itself and for five days becomes a home to the LGBTI (Lesbian, Gay Bi-sexual, Transsexual and Intergender) community as they enjoy a myriad of flamboyant shows, pageants, entertainment and so much more.

Knysna is no new-comer to hosting prestigious LGBTI events such as the Mr Gay World™ that was hosted during 2015.

A recent partnership between, Mr Gay World™ and the license holders for South Africa, Grab Corporations, Mr Mardi Gras South Africa and Pink Loerie Mardi Gras & Arts Festival Southern Africa will now see the winner of the Mr Mardi Gras SA Competition representing South Africa at Mr Gay World™ competitions in future.

Twelve national finalists will show off their brawn, style and intellect throughout the night to impress the national and local judges in the hope of being chosen as their number one.

Mr Mardi Gras co-directors Vernondo Boshoff and Louis Douglas feel strongly that the words “Beauty Pageant” no longer be associated with Mr Mardi Gras South Africa. “The winner will not only be judged on his looks and physique, but more importantly his ability to become a relevant ambassador for all LGBTIs and a crusader of their rights across the world,” said Douglas.

Knysna Pink Loerie coordinator, John-Louis O’Neil promises that the show will be slick and as professional as the previous year’s Mr Gay World™ held at the same venue: “Knowing Vernondo and Louis as I do, the public can rest assured that the show will have something for everyone. Glitz, glamour, drama and laughter will be thrown in for good measure.”
