Gateway Health Institute developed WoZA life to improve the lives of LGBTI refugees and asylum seekers.
WoZA Life is a Progressive Web App(PWA) developed to provide African LGBTI asylum seekers and refugees with relevant and accurate information – both those already in South Africa and those in their home countries considering a new life in SA.
A PWA is a website that behaves like a native app – once accessed information is cached and can be accessed in offline mode.
WoZA Life provides information on the asylum process, legal information, mapping of service providers in provinces where LGBTI refugees and asylum seekers can access services – legal, health and social support such as shelter, training and assistance in securing employment. The web app also has a feedback mechanism where users can rate the web app, service providers or report cases of homophobia, xenophobia, stigma and discrimination and corruption.
WoZA Life was developed with funding from Frontline AIDS (previously International HIV AIDS Alliance). The evidence is gathered through this feedback functionality for use in our advocacy campaign to improve human rights protections for LGBT and to hold government officials to account.
WoZA Life can be accessed here – wozalife.co.za
It also has some security features such as a safety button, which renders the screen blank – to protect those in countries where same-sex are still criminalized.
There is also a closed (private) Facebook group that users can join for more information. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2193843300876231/
